Birds are fascinating and challenging photographic subjects. These Cedar Waxwings were photographed during a recent visit to Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City. I was surprised by a large flock of Cedar Waxwings feeding on the Soapberries (a favorite food). Waxwings can be a challenge to photograph, but these were intent on the soapberries and soon ignored me. Will Rogers Park is a large, old, but well-cared-for, and very mature park near the center of OKC. There are formal gardens, a large tennis center, a senior citizen center, a water park, an amphitheatre, and native stone structures that are nearly a century old. It's always a pleasant visit. These Cedar Waxwings were in the creek behind the formal "Color Garden". They were a treat to photograph. To order this photograph, visit my "On the Wing" gallery.
“Lighthouse in the Blue Hour”
This photograph was made shortly after sunset this past summer at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. The lighthouse is well~known to residents and is frequently the subject of photographs. I wanted to work with long exposures and neutral density filters, but as the sun set and the Blue Hour began, it was clear that no neutral density was needed. The lake was very calm (unusual), the deep blue was ideal, and the orange remnants of sunset on the horizon perfectly completed this image. For those interested in technical details: Canon R6, ISO 100, EF 24-105L f4 at 33mm, f7.1, 25 seconds. Edited in Lightroom Classic. To order this photograph, visit my "The Evening and the Morning" gallery.
“Summer Sunset”
This photograph was made at sunset in a rural area of Oklahoma City. Oklahoma often has spectacular sunsets. Photographers are drawn to the dramatic light of a sunset, but the technical difficulties can be as challenging as the setting is dramatic, and this one is no exception. But I think this result is worth it. For those interested in technical details: Canon 7DII, ISO 100, EF 70-300L. f8 at 150mm, f8, 1/100th second. Edited in Lightroom Classic and DxO Pure Raw.To order this photograph, visit my "The Evening and the Morning" gallery.
“Blue Hour on Lake Hefner”
Continuing my work with long shutter speeds after the sun sets - the "Blue Hour". Long shutter speeds blur moving objects while still ones are in sharp focus. This photograph shows the lights on the far shore and the last glow on the nearby tree and rocks. I think there is a peacefulness to this scene. For those interested in technical details: Canon R6, EF 24-105L @ 45mm with a 3-stop Marumi Neutral Density. f11 @ 30 seconds, ISO 100. Edited in Lightroom Classic and DxO Pure Raw.To order this photograph, visit my "The Evening and the Morning" gallery.
